Reflecting the dramatic silhouettes of antique pilgrim flasks and courtly saddle cantinas, The Gilded Gourd presents a complex, multi-tonal composition defined by exquisite leather craftsmanship and classical metalwork. The piriform, bulbous body is constructed with contrasting panels of patinated charcoal-black and rich oxblood-red leather, joined by finely stitched seams. Draping down the center is an elaborately shaped, hand-tooled russet leather escutcheon strap with chased scrollwork borders. At its core rests a high-relief gilt brass lion mask grasping an articulated ring knocker, flanked on the lateral shoulders by corresponding gilt lion mounts. The vessel tapers into an intricately woven, crisscrossed leather neck collar, accented by an exposed rim of translucent emerald-green glass. The entire assembly is crowned by a melon-fluted spherical stopper with a weathered verdigris-gold patina, creating a striking conversation between tactile frontier leatherwork and baronial decorative arts.
