A Journey Through Los Dominicos Village
In Santiago’s Las Condes district, Los Dominicos Village is more than a marketplace—it’s a living story beneath the Andes.
Here, art, history, and human connection intertwine in every corner.

Some places offer more than inspiration, they offer connection. On a journey through Santiago, Chile, we found such a place in Las Condes. Nestled beneath the watchful peaks of the Andes, Los Dominicos Village (Pueblito Los Dominicos) felt less like a marketplace and more like a whisper from the past. A village where every wall speaks, every texture tells a story, and the art finds you as much as you find it.
This was not a buying trip. It was a curatorial discovery.
The Village as a Living Canvas
Los Dominicos is no ordinary artisan market. It rises out of history, built on land once gifted to Inés de Suárez, Chile’s only female conquistador, and later a refuge during the independence movement. Today, it’s a national heritage zone, where adobe-walled studios and cobblestone paths wind past the copper-domed San Vicente Ferrer Church. And yet, for all its heritage, there’s nothing static about it. The village pulses with creative life.
For a collector, it’s a dream. Not because everything is perfect, but because everything is personal. Here, art is not curated by trends or fairs, but by hand, heart, and history. It invites you to slow down and listen. -

Meeting Ale Missene: Whimsy with a Story
On that same trip, we met Ale Missene, and the tone shifted entirely. Laughter, color, personality: her work lives in a different key, and yet it resonated just as deeply.
The figurative sculptures we acquired, Jenny Lind and Maria Celeste (both 2015), were wall-mounted busts of elegant, almost theatrical women. They were playful, yet oddly regal. Each one hand-painted, each inscribed on the base with Los Dominicos, Chile, like a seal of origin. They made us smile instantly, but the more we looked, the more we appreciated the craftsmanship and cultural wit behind them.
Whimsy is often overlooked in the art world. But we know that joy and narrative are just as essential to collecting as gravitas. Missene’s work isn’t simply decoration, it’s a reminder that art can charm, entertain, and still carry meaning.

The Art of Curation, Beyond the Transaction
People often ask what drives us when curating for the gallery. At Los Dominicos, the answer was clear: we don’t select pieces based on what’s “in”, we choose what resonates. We choose what stops us in our tracks, makes us feel something, or invites us to remember.
Curation isn’t about acquiring objects, it’s about acquiring moments, meeting people, feeling the pulse of their creative world, and honoring that exchange. These works were discovered, experienced, and now shared. Ready to find a new home, and a new chapter in someone else's story. Why Los Dominicos Matters
Los Dominicos reminded us that the most resonant art is born not just from talent, but from context. From the place, the moment, the legacy. It reaffirmed our belief that a collector's role isn't only to acquire, but to carry stories forward.
Whether you're looking to start your collection or add something singular to your space, we invite you to explore the Chilean works now available at Canvas & Bronze. You’ll find Tau’s Angelic—a moment of tranquility in oil—and Ale Missene’s figurines, full of Chilean charm and storytelling delight.
Sometimes, art finds you in a quiet workshop at the edge of the world. And it stays with you forever. You Can Find The Artisan Village Here
