Rosalie Gascoigne

Rosalie Gascoigne (1917–1999) was a New Zealand-born Australian artist known for her distinctive assemblages made from found materials such as road signs, linoleum, and crates. She began as a master of Sogetsu Ikebana before shifting to sculpture in the 1960s. Drawing on the Australian landscape and her love of poetry, her work evokes memory and place through poetic abstraction. In 1982, she became the first woman to represent Australia at the Venice Biennale. Despite limited international travel, her work is held in major collections in Australia, New Zealand, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
