Godfrey Kututwa Art

Godfrey Kututwa, born in 1967 in Nyanga, Zimbabwe, overcame significant challenges to become a prominent Zimbabwean sculptor. Born almost completely deaf and unable to speak, Kututwa's formal education was limited. However, at 21, he began his sculptural journey under the guidance of renowned artist Claud Nyanhongo, laying the foundation for his distinctive artistic voice.

Since establishing himself as an independent artist in 1996, Kututwa has developed a highly expressive sculptural language characterized by fragile, self-absorbed figures with calmly closed eyes. His work, often featuring human figures paired with guarding animal spirits, reflects Shona ancestral beliefs and serves as his primary means of communication with the world. Kututwa's talent has gained international recognition, leading to exhibitions worldwide and participation in the "Friends Forever" collective.
